During this month of low business volumes due to the continuing pandemic, there were four (4) reports recorded and recapped, plus a report from a prior period not previously recapped.
04 October, an adult male drowned after using the “Coco Extremo” waterslide at Maguey Blanco Water Park (Mexico). The same report recaps several earlier drownings in the area. Report
07 October, a woman in India died when her hair became entangled around the wheel shaft of the go-kart she was operating, pulling the hair to cause her head to strike against the vehicle. Report
18 October, a 3-year old was found submerged at Eco Park, a waterpark in Brazil, and died despite treatment in paediatric intensive care. Report | Report
24 October, in Australia, a woman fell from a swinging pendulum ride themed as “Hangover” at the Showfest carnival, reportedly dropping some 30m while the gondola was fully inverted at maximum elevation. Media reports suggest the restraints were improperly fastened or failed. Report | Report
Reports from prior periods
Also in the month, a report appeared updating a case from September 2015, in which a patron at a shopping centre bumper car attraction in Brazil sustained burns from electric fire and sparks, and operators had not powered down the attraction promptly. Report
Summary reports
Also, Florida theme park 2020 3rd quarterly report was published. Most attraction operations were operating at greatly reduced capacities and fewer injuries were reported, including reports that had never been covered in the media. A 68-year-old woman with pre-existing conditions sustained a stroke on the mild motion-base version of Mission: SPACE; a 59-year-old woman had hip and pelvis pain on waterslide at Volcano Bay where riders drop several feet from the end of the slide into the pool; and a 49-year-old woman had an “illness” after riding a flume ride at SeaWorld.
